Arizona Gifted & Talented Education Week: February 2-8, 2025
We are excited to share that February 2-8, 2025, has been officially proclaimed as Arizona Gifted & Talented Education Week by Governor Katie Hobbs and Secretary of State Adrian Fontes.
This recognition highlights the importance of supporting gifted students and ensuring they receive the educational opportunities they need to reach their full potential. Gifted learners often think and learn differently, and without the right support, they can struggle to stay engaged in school. This proclamation helps bring awareness to the unique needs of gifted students and reinforces Arizona’s commitment to providing them with the resources and programs necessary to thrive.
Why This Matters for Gifted Students and Families
Gifted students need more than just extra work or higher expectations—they need learning experiences that challenge and engage them at their level. Without appropriate support, they can become frustrated, disengaged, or even overlooked in traditional classrooms. Arizona Gifted & Talented Education Week serves as a reminder that these students deserve specialized instruction, resources, and advocacy to ensure they are receiving an education that meets their needs.
At the Arizona Association for Gifted and Talented (AAGT), we are committed to making sure that gifted students in Arizona are recognized, supported, and provided with the best possible education.
How This Proclamation Supports AAGT’s Mission
AAGT exists to ensure that gifted education is a priority in Arizona’s schools. Our mission is to advocate for the needs of gifted students, provide resources for families and educators, and support policies that help these learners succeed.
This proclamation directly supports the goals outlined in AAGT’s 2022-2025 Strategic Plan, which include:
- Raising awareness about the importance of gifted education in Arizona.
- Ensuring gifted students in every school have access to appropriate resources and academic programs.
- Expanding outreach to families and educators across the state, including providing resources in multiple languages.
- Advocating for stronger policies at the state level to protect and improve gifted education programs.
One of our key initiatives is to increase direct advocacy at the state level, ensuring that gifted education is part of larger discussions on school funding and curriculum development. This proclamation is an important step in gaining more visibility and support for these efforts.
