Tempe Elementary School District Announces the Opening of ASPIRE Academy at Arredondo: A Premier Self-Contained Gifted School

The Tempe Elementary School District is proud to announce the opening of ASPIRE Academy at Arredondo on July 23, 2025. ASPIRE Academy at Arredondo is an A+ School of Excellence® dedicated exclusively to meeting the unique needs of gifted students who seek an academically rigorous environment and who demonstrate exceptional abilities, offering a transformative educational experience unlike any other.

“At ASPIRE Academy at Arredondo our goal is a school culture that will inspire them to explore their interests deeply, use their talents to uplift others, and become catalysts for positive change. We want every student to feel a strong sense of belonging, knowing that they are valued, celebrated, and empowered to take risks, understanding that their potential is limitless,” shared Rebecca Coplan, Principal of ASPIRE Academy.

ASPIRE Academy is designed for students who score in the 94th percentile or higher in at least one area on a state board-approved test for gifted identification, with an additional qualifying score of 85th percentile or higher in another area. This criteria ensures a dynamic community where gifted learners can thrive alongside intellectual peers.

All classroom and special area teachers understand the unique characteristics and needs of gifted learners through relevant, ongoing professional development. Each one of the teachers either hold or are in pursuit of the Arizona Department of Education Gifted, PreK-12 Endorsement. ASPIRE Academy’s program incorporates both the grade-level Arizona Academic Standards and the National Standards in Gifted and Talented Education. The curriculum is designed to encourage deep exploration, critical thinking, and creativity, all within a small, and supportive school community.
