Picking the Best School for my Gifted & Talented Child

While AAGT cannot refer you to any particular schools or specific districts, we can help you identify the type of characteristics you may be looking for to help your child. This Hoagies Article has some great pointers to help you begin your search. You can also join a local affiliate group in your area in order to network with other parents. Identify the school districts in your area and find their Gifted & Talented Education page/website, then schedule a time to meet with the department to get all your questions answered. You may also consider any charter or private schools in your area and set up times to meet with them. Involve your child too! They will most likely also have an opinion on which school makes them feel the most comfortable!

Understanding the type of gifted & talented classrooms will also be important when making the best decision for your child. There are four main types: ClusterSelf-ContainedPull-out and Enrichment. Visit our glossary to see the difference between each is.

Parent Institute

Each fall, AAGT holds a Parents Institute addressing the needs and questions of parents from across Arizona. During the Parent Institute, we set up a special children’s program, so your child/children could learn while you’re in sessions.  We encourage parents to attend the Parent Institute and AAGT conferences.
