AAGT’s First Play Date in the Park Brings Families Together

On November 8th, AAGT hosted our very first Play Date in the Park, and it was everything we hoped it would be—sunshine, laughter, curiosity, and connection.

About 15 families joined us, representing public, private, and charter schools from across the Valley. Kids played games like chess, made new friends, and bonded over shared interests while parents connected with AAGT Board members to share ideas, ask questions, and build community.

A family of four posing together at the playground during AAGT’s Play at the Park event in Scottsdale. Two young children standing side by side at AAGT’s Play at the Park event, holding crafts and smiling. The boy holds a stuffed dog and wears a green Minecraft shirt, while the girl wears a bright pink traditional outfit and sun hat. The child carefully adds a block while others relax and chat in the background on a sunny afternoon.

“It was great to see families from different districts and schools coming together,” said Rowe Van Meter. “Everyone was relaxed, talking, and just having fun.”

Jessica Zimmerman added, “We even had a couple of families ask for teen-focused events, which are definitely in our plans.”

Board members echoed the excitement:

❤️ “Kids had a great time.” – Michael D. Butts

The event was a wonderful reminder that sometimes the best connections start with simple play and conversation. We’re already planning more play dates across Arizona and hope to bring one to a park near you soon.
