AAGT Connects with Families at Creighton’s Gifted & Talented Showcase

On May 13, AAGT Board President Jessica and board member Rowe had the opportunity to represent the Arizona Association for Gifted and Talented at the Creighton School District Gifted & Talented Program Showcase hosted at Larry C. Kennedy School.

The showcase brought together approximately 60 gifted students and their families for a hands-on night of exploration, creativity, innovation, and community connection. Hosted by the Creighton Gifted & Talented Team, the event highlighted the incredible work students are doing while helping families connect learning to real-world careers and opportunities.

Students rotated through interactive stations tailored by grade level, including LEGO robotics activities for younger students, semiconductor and robotics exploration for middle grades, and technology and career-focused discussions for older students. Everywhere you looked, students were building, experimenting, asking thoughtful questions, and diving headfirst into learning.

Jessica and Rowe spent the evening sharing information about AAGT’s programs, resources, events, and advocacy efforts while connecting directly with families about the joys and challenges that can come with raising and supporting gifted learners. One of the best parts of the night was simply getting to meet so many curious, engaged students who were excited to learn and explore.

From creative STEM activities to conversations about future careers and big ideas, the event was a reminder of just how important it is to create spaces where gifted children feel seen, heard, and supported. (Which also happened to perfectly match Jessica’s AAGT shirt for the evening.)

One especially memorable activity invited students to reflect on their own “potential” — a small but powerful reminder of the purpose behind gifted education. Not just achievement, but possibility.

AAGT is incredibly grateful to the Creighton School District and the team at Larry C. Kennedy School for inviting us to participate in such an engaging event. We love seeing schools create opportunities that connect families, educators, and community organizations in ways that make learning exciting and meaningful for students.

One of AAGT’s favorite things is getting out into schools and communities across Arizona to connect directly with families, educators, and students. Whether it’s a parent night, gifted program showcase, educator workshop, or community event, we are always excited to help support conversations around giftedness and advocacy for gifted learners. Arizona public school districts are required to identify and serve gifted students, but families often still have questions about resources, advocacy, and support systems available to them.

If your school, district, or parent group would like an AAGT board member or staff member to speak at an upcoming event, you can submit a speaker request through AAGT Speaker Request Form. AAGT speakers are available for parent nights, workshops, educator trainings, and more.

Thank you again for welcoming AAGT into your community for the evening. We had an amazing time and are already hoping to come back next year.
