Teacher Classroom Mini-Grant Fall 2021 Recipient Update – Laird School

Dear Heather Pace and AAGT Scholarship Task Force,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you again for providing me with the AAGT mini-grant. With your help and continued support of our gifted and talented PACE program, students were able to compete in the National History Day Competition at the junior level. Through this program, students are able to experience the world of a professional historian by engaging them in the process of discovery and interpretation of historical topics. Students developed research, critical thinking, analysis, and presentation skills. Most importantly, by actively participating in a project that appeals to their own interests and talents, students became engaged learners and developed confidence in their academic abilities.

Twenty-five gifted PACE  students participated in the NHD project process; 15 competed at the Regional level; 11 advanced to the State Affiliate Competition (3 received special prize awards); 8 students are advancing to the National History Day competition in June! I was also awarded the National History Day Patricia Behring Teacher of the Year Award Nomination for the state of Arizona.

Our students greatly appreciate your interest in their efforts to discover more about the historical, cultural, and social experiences of the past. As promised, I have attached some photos for you to enjoy. Again thank you for your assistance and your continued support of this life-changing experience.

Kind regards,

Mrs. Ellen Miller
