Curiosity, Creativity, and Connection Take Center Stage at AAGT’s STEMSational Summer Seminar
On May 28, educators, homeschool families, advocates, and gifted education supporters from across Arizona gathered at Rio Salado College for AAGT’s 2026 STEMSational Summer Seminar. The day was filled with learning, laughter, hands-on experiences, and a shared commitment to preparing gifted learners for a future driven by innovation and discovery.
Our keynote speaker, DaNel Hogan, kicked off the day with an inspiring presentation that blended her personal experiences as a gifted learner with her journey into STEM. Through storytelling, humor, and interactive activities, DaNel reminded attendees of the importance of nurturing curiosity, embracing challenges, and helping students see themselves as future problem-solvers and innovators.
Before the seminar, we asked several former students of AAGT board members to share how STEM education influenced their lives. Their stories reminded us exactly why this work matters. From discovering passions and career paths to building confidence and resilience, each student shared how opportunities to explore STEM helped shape who they are today. If you haven’t seen it yet, we encourage you to take a few minutes to watch this special video and hear directly from the learners who inspire our work every day.
Throughout the day, breakout sessions provided opportunities for participants to explore creative approaches to STEM education, gifted learning, and talent development. Presenters engaged attendees in hands-on activities, meaningful discussions, and practical strategies that can be implemented immediately in classrooms, schools, and homeschool environments. The energy in each room was contagious as participants collaborated, experimented, and shared ideas with one another.
A highlight of this year’s event was the STEM Vendor Science Fair. Rather than a traditional exhibit hall, vendors embraced the science fair theme by showcasing innovative products, programs, and resources designed to support gifted and advanced learners. Attendees explored exhibits, completed their Vendor Passports, and connected directly with organizations committed to expanding opportunities for Arizona students.
Most importantly, the Summer Seminar provided a space for connection. Educators exchanged ideas, parents found new resources, and participants built relationships with others who share a passion for supporting gifted learners. These conversations and connections are what make the AAGT community so special.
A heartfelt thank you goes to our keynote speaker, presenters, exhibitors, volunteers, sponsors, and attendees who made this event such a success. Your enthusiasm, creativity, and dedication helped create a memorable day that celebrated the power of STEM education and the potential of Arizona’s gifted learners.
We look forward to continuing the conversation and seeing you at future AAGT events. Until then, keep asking questions, exploring possibilities, and inspiring curiosity in the learners you serve.
