Gifted education matters in every community, but the way gifted services look can vary greatly…
Back-to-School Doesn’t Have to Feel So Hard
The transition back to school can bring excitement, but it can also bring stress. New routines, early mornings, and changing expectations can be overwhelming for young children and their families.
One of our valued partners, CENTER Psychology & Consulting, has created a simple, practical resource to help make those first weeks a little smoother. Their Back-to-School Checklist for Kindergarten & Early Elementary Children focuses on creating predictable routines that reduce stress during the parts of the day that are often the most challenging: mornings, after school, and bedtime.
The checklist includes easy, research-informed strategies such as:
- Creating a designated “launchpad” for backpacks, shoes, and lunchboxes.
- Packing everything the night before to reduce morning decision-making.
- Allowing quiet decompression time after school before jumping into homework or questions.
- Keeping bedtime routines simple, consistent, and screen-free.
These small changes can make a big difference, especially for children who are navigating sensory needs, anxiety, or the adjustment to a new school year.
At AAGT, we know that every child thrives when they have the right support at home and at school. We encourage parents of young learners to download the checklist, try a few of the ideas, and remember that progress is more important than perfection. A calm, predictable routine can be one of the greatest gifts you give your child as they head into a new school year.
Thank you to CENTER Psychology & Consulting for sharing this helpful resource with our community!
