AAGT in Action Connecting with Educators in Rural Arizona

AAGT is committed to supporting gifted learners and the educators who serve them in communities across Arizona, and sometimes that means taking AAGT on the road!

This summer, AAGT Board Members Vicki Greer and Amy Leeds represented the association at the Navajo & Apache County Teachers Conference, connecting directly with educators from rural communities throughout northeastern Arizona.

At the AAGT table, Vicki and Amy shared gifted education resources, talked with teachers about the needs of gifted and advanced learners and helped educators learn more about the professional learning, family resources, advocacy and connections available through AAGT.

Why Rural Connections Matter

Gifted learners live in every Arizona community, but access to gifted programs, professional learning and specialized resources can look very different depending on where a student lives.

For AAGT, being present at regional events like the Navajo & Apache County Teachers Conference is about more than handing out resources. It gives us an opportunity to listen to educators, better understand the challenges and successes within their communities and build relationships that can help strengthen gifted education throughout the state.

Those conversations also help AAGT ensure that the voices and experiences of rural educators and families are represented as we develop resources, programs and advocacy efforts.

Taking AAGT Across Arizona

As a statewide organization, we want AAGT to truly mean all of Arizona. Connecting with educators in rural, tribal and geographically isolated communities is an important part of that work.

We are grateful to Vicki and Amy for representing AAGT and to the educators who stopped by to talk, share their experiences and learn more about supporting gifted learners.

Every connection helps us build a stronger statewide community where Arizona’s gifted learners can be seen, understood and supported.
